HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Institute for Religious Studies, affirmed that any attack on safe worshippers in their places of worship is an attack on the core values of religion.
This came in a message of condolences sent by HH The Amir to Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East Greek Orthodox Patriarch, following the terrorist bombing that took place at St Elias Church in the Duwaila area of Damascus.
HH The Amir said that when some extremists affiliated with Islam claim responsibility for killing worshippers in churches, they offend the teachings of Islam, which emphasise the preservation of human life.
HH The Amir added that this attack represents an attack on the values of peace and human dignity advocated by Christianity and Islam.
HH The Amir referred to the meeting held in Amman last May, ‘Christians in the Arab Levant and aspirations of unity and enlightenment,’ with the participation of Christian leaders from the Levant and a group of Muslim and Christian intellectuals, which stressed the moral and behavioural role played by religion, without mixing it with politics and avoiding the politicisation of religion or politicisation of politics, in addition to fighting all forms of intolerance and religious or sectarian discrimination, combating hate speech, and renouncing violence.
