The Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies (RIIFS) is seeking a dedicated and highly motivated full-time librarian/archivist to join our team.
Job Title: Librarian and Archivist
Position Summary:
The Librarian and Archivist is responsible for managing, organising and developing RIIFS library collections and archival materials. This position ensures the accessibility, preservation and proper cataloguing of both old and new resources and documents. The position requires expertise in both library science and archival practices to support research, education and the preservation of institutional.
Key Responsibilities:
Library Responsibilities:
- Manage and develop print and digital library collections.
- Provide reference and research assistance to users.
- Classify, catalogue and index library materials using standard systems (e.g., Dewey, Library of Congress).
- Monitor acquisitions and interlibrary exchange.
- Organise user education and orientation sessions.
- Experience with the Koha integrated library system is a must.
Archival Responsibilities:
- Identify, appraise and acquire records of historical value.
- Preserve, digitise and catalogue archival materials (manuscripts, photographs, maps, recordings, etc.).
- Maintain proper storage and conservation practices for sensitive materials.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or Archival Studies. Dual qualifications or experience in both areas is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in library management and/or archival practices.
- Familiarity with cataloguing standards (MARC, RDA, EAD, Dublin Core).
- Strong organisational and digital literacy skills.
- High attention to detail, discretion, and a strong respect for historical materials.
